With the use of processes such as gasification, incineration, and pyrolysis, the country’s waste-to-energy (WTE) facilities generate electrical energy from its solid waste collection. The completion of a US$40 million WTE plant in the southwestern island of Palawan is expected to contribute 5MW of power supply.
Today, more and more local government units are becoming keen to build WTE plants through partnerships with private firms. In response to this growing interest, countries like France, Japan, and Australia have stated their willingness to develop WTE facilities and invest in waste conversion technologies in the Philippines.
